The story of republic day begins long before 1950 in 1929 during the lahore sessions of the Indian national congress the demand for purna swaraj (complete independence) was declared consequently 26th January 1930 was observed as independance day for the first time although india finally gained independence on 15 august 1947 the the leader chose 26th January 1950 as the day to implement the constitution to honor the memory of that earlier declaration .




After independence a constituent assembly was formed under the leadership of Dr Rajendra prasad as it's president and dr B.R Ambedkar as the chairman of the drafting committee the assembly worked tirelessly for nearly three years to draft the constitution finally on 26th January 1950 the constitution came into force and Dr Rajendra prasad was sworn in as the first president of India.
